It took years for me to learn about proper hair care for my hair type and I'm still learning and trying new things.
I relax (its a treatment similar to a perm) my hair every 3 months for the new roots that have grown in. The roots are the nappiest part of my head, so I treat them every three months to get out the kinks. I don't advise anyone to get a relaxer unless they've spoken to a hair professional. I know I need it for my hair type and I've been getting relaxers for at least 20 years.
In between my relaxers I deep condition my hair once a week using Ion Repair Solutions which you can find at any Sally's Beauty Supply. My sister who does not use relaxers for her hair also uses this product once a week and she also has dry, frizzy, curly hair (but not as bad as mine).
The ion repair solutions comes in a small packet for $1.89 and it contains enough for a single application.
It also comes in a bigger bottle for $6.49 for those who use it regularly.
For most people who have semi-dry or semi-frizzy hair you can follow the directions on the back for great results.
If you have really dry and frizzy hair like my sister and I then its going to take some wooork! Lol...Once a week your going to wash, towel dry, and comb hair, then put a generous application of the conditioner all over your hair. Once that's done your going to put your hair in a shower cap for 30 minutes, out of those 30 minutes take 10 minutes to either stand outside in the sun or use a blow dryer for heat to really activate the conditioner. After the 30 minutes rinse with semi-cool water and style as desired.
Also, once a month (or as often as you'd like) on days that you plan on staying home. Wash, towel dry, and comb hair then add a generous amount of the conditioner to your hair and comb it through. Once your hair is coated with a fair amount of conditioner split your hair into pigtails. On each side of your pigtails make three braids (3 on the left side and 3 on the right) and then out of those 3 braids make one big braid on each side. Leave your hair like this for at least 24 hours or more. Once finished just re-wash and style as desired. My sister taught me this trick and I have to say it works wonders...my hair is so pretty and curly after one of these 24 hour treatments! =)
Ion Repair Solutions works wonders on my hair. It leaves my hair feeling soft and healthy and my curls look so much better now that I use it. I hope you will try it at least once and if you do please leave a comment with your experience. If you have any questions please let me know.
Here is an older picture of my sister and I...I don't have any recent pictures of us with our hair down, but I will make sure to take one soon =)
I'm on the left and my beautiful sister is on the right.
Enjoy!
